About the Artist
Working predominately in acrylic medium, Stephen’s work captures a broad range of subject matter from colourful raw and geometric abstraction to realism.
Studio Candid: In progress on “Eddy”
Born and raised in Newfoundland, Stephen began his art career early in life. From grade-school art classes to early training by late Newfoundland artist, Lloyd Pretty, Stephen developed a love of art into a professional design career. Now more than 25 years later, Stephen continues a journey that has taken him across Canada and back again.
His career has seen him lead creative work in ad agencies big and small, developing award-winning campaigns, strategic marketing ideas, and creative brand identities for large and boutique brands alike.
In 2018, Stephen exhibited his first solo art exhibition titled “One”, revealing a peek into the passion that has driven a life-long relationship with creativity. Art has not only allowed him the opportunity to find success in an industry that’s as demanding as it is exciting but has continued to be a key motivator in his work.
Stephen’s signature panel edging is finished in an ombre-style burnt umber fade. Prepping runs and drips remain, keeping a raw, artistic feel, providing a finish that most choose to keep unframed.
Stephen spends part of the year in Western Canada and part of the year at home in St. John’s where he continues to service a broad roster of local and national clients. He also oversees his own creative consultancy, regularly donating his services to non profit and charitable organizations.
Stephen is currently working on his next independent exhibition while maintaining a small gallery of available pieces and working through a number of commissions for private clients.
